Who would choose MAID in Canada if they were informed that the method to achieve their death is similar to drowning? As anesthetized as one is there will be no way to cry STOP!!! So not only does one experience the terror of drowning, they have the added terror of drugged immobility. No way to raise a finger or hand; no will to open the eyes, or moan, or cry out. No way to say:
“No one told me it would be like this. They told me it would be ‘a fast, painless transition from consciousness to deep coma, and then death, usually within 5–10 minutes.’ No way now to bear witness to the horror except through my autopsy and since autopsies are not normally done with MAID, my body cannot witness the horror of my last hours.”Should we demand an investigation into what the promoters and abbetors of MAID knew when they curried the consent of politicians and medics? Could there be a case for criminal negligence? criminal conspiracy?
